Putting the "Friend" back in your "Friends List"

I'm not always a good friend. I try to be, but then life takes over and I find I lose touch with people, both online and offline. Sometimes I find myself in conversations with friends who are talking about things I didn't know about. I had no idea El Sand Dog had his appendix removed. I've lost track of QJB's operations. I seem to forget the names of kids and spouses of people on my friends list, which is a result of not talking to them for a while. I'm sure that there's plenty more that I can't list here simply because I don't know about it.

Even here locally, I've lost track of friends that I've known since grade school. I'm starting to feel guilty about it. Now, I'm not a Facebook guy, I'm a face-to-face guy. I prefer to talk to someone or email someone directly than read a post on a website as to how they're doing. I'm also a private person by nature and my life is not the business of the general public. Not to mention I'd have to wrestle Rhonda for the PC. I'm sure she'd just as soon call the police and have me arrested for domestic abuse rather than give up "her" computer.

Time is my enemy. Always has been. There's never enough of it for me to do the things that I would like to do. And for some reason, I've had really low energy lately too, which doesn't help. I think I need a multi-vitamin with a Red Bull chaser. And for the first time ever, I'm considering a Facebook account just to consolidate my friends (or the vast majority thereof) and make a concerted effort to know what's going on in their lives on a regular basis. I'm a little anti-facebook because the whole "stalkbook" thing. It earned that nickname for a reason, so I'm still a little uncertain.

In the meantime, I'm going to try and make a better effort to keep in touch with my friends. It's time that the "friend" on your "friends list" makes an appearance again.

  2. You will always be my friend, whether you're around or not. Besides there's not much in my life to keep track of. I'm kind of easy like that [insert sexual innuendo here].

I don't think I have enough space in my brain to remember/know everything about my friends. I still don't know the names of all of Genghis's kids (or his wife's name), or the names of Sneaka's kids, or if tacos has kids at all. I can't remember how many dogs Sand Dog has. And I certainly can't remember who has what games when we're trying to figure out what to play (btw: Genghis was sad that we "left weasell hanging" when we had a full party to play L4D2 last night, he missed you).

As for facebook, if you get your settings right nobody can see anything that you don't want them to. I created lists of friends: "gaming friends", "family", "high school friends" etc, so I can focus on one or the other if I want to know what a group of people are doing. My problem with my gaming list is trying to remember what real life name goes with what gamer tag. Great, now my head hurts. :)

  3. I'm not even going to start with the "easy" comments. Sometimes it's just too easy to take advantage of. Oops, I think I just did. And never mind the fact that innuendo sounds like "in your end-o"..

Don't worry about last night. I was in bed by 10:00 (8:00pm your time). I was so tired there was no way I could have put in any amount of time online. That 2 hour time difference is a killer for me. Some nights I just need to sleep. I have no idea how c5 does it. Besides, Rick only rented the game. Might as well get him in as much zombie killing goodness as possible before he returns it.

I did hear something about Rainbow Six tonight, though. I wouldn't mind getting in on that if there's room for "Canadian Bacon". Gotta stock up on Red Bull. :-P

  4. I think Evil is turning in L4D2 today, that's why we played with him last night (though he was less than thrilled about the game choice). Genghis now has beamer's copy of Red Dead so there was talk of Evil, Sneaks, and Genghis "posse-ing up" to play that game tonight. If you've got it, join 'em. Genghis did say whatever he played would be "open mic night" (i.e. he'll be getting drunk) so those terrorists in Rainbow might get an ear full.

As for time zones, you could always hook up with c5 more often since your times are closer together. :)

If it is R6:V tonight Sneaka needs a "black ops" name so be thinking of one. (btw: Last night I found online that yesterday was "National Hot and Spicey day". Ah, a holiday in my honor :) )

  5. Oh, and on my "gratitude" post you were someone I was thanking in group #2.

    Thanks you!

  6. I've never heard of National Hot and Spicy day, but that's funny!! Hope you got he day off work for it.

Since K-man is a teacher, we could try using that for a name. Something like "The Professor", "The Principal", "The Instructor" or maybe just "Teach". He's coming to smack your a$$ with "The Board of Education", and it's a HARD lesson to learn. Maybe something to do with sex ed and keeping you after school for homework?

    I dunno. Any other suggestions?
